TOTAL is offering 10 scholarships to Yemeni students to study Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees. Applications are accepted from 2
November 2010 to 6 December 2010.

Eligibility:
Applying candidates must be:
• Of a Yemeni nationality
• Between 17 and 22 years old
• Holding a secondary school transcript from Yemen with a minimum overall average of 85%
• Committed to return to their home country (Yemen) at the end of the program

Selection ProcessPHASE I – Initial Selection
All applicants must complete their secondary school in Yemen and thus; must have a transcript from a Yemeni high school. The initial screening will be based on pure academic achievement in the following:
1- Overall grades at the secondary school level:
85% - 88% = 1 point
89% - 92% = 2 points
93% - 96% = 3 points
97% - 100% = 4 points
2- Science grades at the secondary school level. Subjects include Math, Physics, and Chemistry only:
85% - 88% = 1 point
89% - 92% = 2 points
93% - 96% = 3 points
97% - 100% = 4 points
3- English grades at secondary school level:
85% - 88% = 1 point
89% - 92% = 2 points
93% - 96% = 3 points
97% - 100% = 4 points
Applicants are encouraged to take English language exams, such as TOEFL or IELTS, prior to submitting their applications. If selected in the Scholarship Programme, TOTAL will provide and fund intensive English language training to students who do not meet the language requirement.
PHASE II – TOTAL Exam
In this phase, short-listed students from PHASE I will undergo an exam. The exam is developed and administered by TOTAL’s officials. The exam consists of a sciences section and an English language section. All questions will be developed based on secondary school curriculum. All questions in the sciences section will be in both English and Arabic.
PHASE III – Interview
Candidates with highest results from PHASE II will be shot-listed for an interview. Applicants will be evaluated on enthusiasm, maturity, and social intelligence. TOTAL will also consider English language competency while evaluating candidates.
PHASE IV – Review and Ranking
the top-five interviewees will be granted the scholarships. Their files will be sent to the University of Leeds for final approval.
PHASE V – Medical Exam, University Admission, and UK Visa
The top-five students must undergo a medical exam to confirm their health situation. Students who do not meet the health requirements will not be able to participate in the Scholarship Programme. TOTAL will also carry on the admission process at the University of Leeds and students’ visa paperwork at the Embassy of the United Kingdom. The University of Leeds and the Embassy of the United Kingdom have the discretion of rejecting students based on qualifications and background checks.
FINAL REMARKS
Total will be contacting selected candidates in each phase. The final top-five candidates must be prepared to travel in September 2011. This program is strictly limited to Petroleum, Chemical, or Energy & Environmental Engineering or Earth Sciences. Students who cannot complete their chosen technical major will be returned to Yemen. Changing majors to a non-technical degree is not acceptable.
